Steve Wilson has been weaving with cashmere, mohair and wool since he discovered and rescued from closure many years ago, a small woollen mill deep in the Highlands of Scotland. Now based in Edinburgh, his unique range can be found in high quality craft shows across the UK and in his online shop.
The colour-rich, tactile designs are woven on a traditional loom in small batches, ensuring a unique limited edition product. Colour plays an important part in each of the designs so cashmere, mohair and lambswool are dyed to create a palette as bespoke as the products. The dyed yarns are then warped to create a rainbow of colour on the loom, ready to be woven into one of his exclusive designs.
Kim’s love of textiles was inspired by her grandmother who created beautiful garments. A belief of ‘waste not, want not’ after the clothes rationing of WWII led to many of the fabrics she used being upcycled, an ethic Kim incorporates today in many of her pieces.
An Honours degree in woven and knitted textiles from the Scottish College of Textiles led to Kim designing and manufacturing her own knitwear range, followed by a career in education. Kim has now returned to her great love of fabrics, creating a range of one-off neckwraps using a collection of luxurious textiles, including some of Steve Wilson’s signature cashmere weaves. These neckwraps are lined in the softest fleece, fastening with a beautiful handmade or vintage button.
